Shaping The Future Of Surgery - Further Extension & Expansion of NSTC Facilities

In Newcastle we are shaping the future of surgery. We are developing new technology and techniques that push the boundaries of what is surgically possible. At the same time we are training the next generation of experts to pioneer their use.

Due to the rapid expansion of surgery, simulation and robotic training we need to be in a position to manage growth enhancing and harnessing the skills knowledge of surgeons and challenging standards leading to and encouraging positive change based on sound evidence

Significant areas of development were identified to maximise education and to this effect we are delighted to announce that we have added a further extension which will provide the UK with a wider range of surgical education, training and research opportunities.

Our newly extended facilities include

  • Endoscopy/Simulation Suite
  • New Lecture Theatre 2 - Seating Capacity for 60 with video conferencing facilities
  • Lecture Theatre 1 - Seating Capacity for 40 with video conferencing facilities
  • Theatre 1 - 4 Full Tilt & Lateral Operating Tables including Fully Functional Galaxy Lights which incorporates recording & audio
  • Theatre 2 (now fully extended) - 5 Full Tilt & Lateral Operating Tables including Fully Functional Galaxy Lights which incorporates recording & audio
  • Able to combine Theatre 1 & 2 together creating a 9 workstation theatre
  • Additonal Meeting Rooms
  • Extra Male Changing Rooms

Cadaveric training is a key area in the further development of training and now plays an integral part in the future validation of trainees at core, intermediate & advanced training grades. Our educational programmes incorporate regional, national & international delegates

The NSTC can further enhance the training of all surgical specialites with cadaveric specimens, porcine tissue & simulation. As well as facilitating the acquisition of routine skills, live links allows safe (both for learner and the patient) exposure to rare diseases, critical incidents, near misses and crisis siutations that learners may not be exposed to during simulation training
